Anyone reading or looking at the news these past few weeks is almost assuredly aghast at some of the scenes coming out of Ukraine. Russia has sought to take possession of Ukraine, just as it had been during the days of the U.S.S.R. The images of the injuries, death, and destruction are hard to watch. They may also cause one to harbor immense hatred for Russia, as the instigators of this conflict. And while that may be appropriate, don’t rely on the American media to give you any actual context to what is going on.
Imagine that China - the second most powerful country on the planet - worked out a deal with Canada to become part of the Chinese Communist Party. Imagine they signed a treaty with a condition that China would protect Canada against all enemies. Of course, in order to do that, China would need to stack the Canadian - U.S. border with Chinese troops and military. How would that make the United States feel, given that, to a certain degree, China is hostile to the U.S. (they just like us when we buy all their stuff)?
The metaphor laid out here is nearly exactly what happened to Russia. The United States and member allies of NATO suddenly made it a goal to enshrine Ukraine as another member of NATO. NATO is an agreement among several Western countries to provide common defense. Militarily, it is fair to say that all members of NATO make up a large nation, in terms of its military structure. So, in essence, the U.S. and NATO were intentionally stoking Russia by threatening to place troops on their border in Ukraine.
Now, is that alone enough reason for Russia to invade Ukraine? That all depends on your worldview. But it almost certainly obliterates the narrative by the mainstream media that Russia is just doing this because they are evil. Russia has a right to be weary of the strongest military on Earth (NATO). Beyond that, Russia and Ukraine have a very long history well beyond anything Westerners such as ourselves understand, and one in which I am not qualified to outline here. Decades and centuries of existence have made Russia and Ukraine's history extremely complex.
But guess who doesn't talk about those things? You guessed it - our old friends in the mainstream media, which certainly includes Fox News. Rather than providing context, or having different opinions represented, or talking to the “other side,” they push one narrative and one narrative alone: Russia bad, U.S. good. It is the type of narrative that only a child would believe - someone who doesn’t realize that everything that happens in the geopolitical world has a long and storied background. Think about this for a second - why would Russia just up and invade Ukraine out of the blue? Why are they being so delicate in their approach? Why are they taking care not to target civilians? The answer is because they view Ukraine as their own people, and many, many, many Ukrainians view themselves as Russian. It would be like if Illinois' government separated from America and then asked the citizens of Illinois not to think of themselves as American anymore.
And yet maybe all this is still not enough to justify Russia's invasion. That’s a fair stance to take. You can hold that position while simultaneously understanding that this is a very complex topic with a lot of background that is too much for us to fully comprehend. Just know that that opinion would get you labeled a “traitor” or worse on CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News. For merely acknowledging that “it’s complicated,” you would be cast aside. Unfortunately, their echo chamber has led them even further in their proclamations. CNN just released a poll that 77% of their viewers believe that The U.S. and NATO should use our own troops to engage Russia in a “hit war" inUkraine. That would include the two largest nuclear superpowers on Earth engaging in a regional conflict all the way across the world. I guess you can be so “woke" that you no longer even fear nuclear war.
The question becomes why the media is so hellbent on this narrative. Well, there are many factors, some of which we probably don’t even know. “The Left" used to be (appropriately) skeptical of war. But today's media is nothing more than an extension of globalists like Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer, and a number of former Pentagon officials who are all financially invested in the military-industrial complex. They need constant conflict to keep Americans pre-occupied and to keep the elitists' wallets full of money from companies like Raytheon or Halliburton. The media also gets ratings from tragedies. The saying “if it bleeds, it leads" is just as true today as it ever was. What is curious, however, is that they don’t spend any time covering places overseas where America has done far worse to civilians than Russia currently is. Yemen? Afghanistan? Iraq? Most people agree that such invasions were pointless and evil. It was one of the main themes of Donald Trump's popularity that he called out those wars as costly, unnecessary, and wrong. But I guess Mr. Trump's thoughts couldn’t possibly be accurate, right?
The final reason that comes to mind as to why the current media and their drooling goons on the Left are encouraging war is an unfortunate one. They still believe (and have convinced millions) that Donald Trump and his supporters are literally Russian agents. It's hard to wrap your mind around how idiotic this is, but it is almost certainly a belief of theirs. There is a hatred for Vladimir Putin that the media has so ferociously created because they couldn’t handle the fact that Donald Trump was elected president. They live in a fictitious reality.
At the end of the day, everyone has a right to form their own conclusions on what is happening in Ukraine. Everyone is free to judge Russia as they see fit. But what everyone doesn't have a right to do is to ignore all context for a comedically simplistic and ignorant narrative of “good vs evil.” The globalists who run this country and the media they own are almost certainly “evil" by any definition. So let’s not let them fool us again. When they drive a simplistic narrative, we must dig deeper. We must ask what’s in it for them. We must not be taken in by their emotionally-provoking pictures (which are sometimes fake), their soliloquys about justice, and their propaganda that they spew so easily. This situation is complicated, as all things the media tries to spin are.
